Who?

“Just as the magic and spiritual fulfilment of the collective voice is my driver for singing in a choir, so harnessing the power of networks, collective experiences and the worlds of peoples’ everyday lives is the dynamic motivator of our teams research endeavour”, says Professor of Health Systems Implementation Anne Rogers.

Why?

Self-management support is an increasingly important component of chronic disease management. It can enhance well-being and reduce healthcare costs. However, current approaches may over-emphasise the role of the individual and underestimate the role of social networks and local community. EU-WISE aims to improve this situation.

What?

EU-WISE aims to help people with a chronic illness to better manage their disease. We have studied how healthcare systems, personal networks and local organisations can improve self-care. Next, we have developed EUGENIE, a method based on social network awareness. It helps diabetes patients to better manage their condition.

How?

“Our consortium brings together eight research partners from different European settings”, says Professor Rogers. The EUGENIE method is focused on the role that social networks play in long term condition management. It helps to increase patient access to resources and to improve support for health and well-being.
