Research Profile

Who?

Dr Edo Richard says: "I combine my clinical work as neurologist with research on new strategies to prevent dementia. This combination allows me to never forget why I do medical research: to improve the everyday life of people by not only treating but preferably preventing disease".

Why?

Diabetes, hypertension and high blood cholesterol are common among the elderly. These conditions are often not optimally managed, raising the risk for disabling diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and dementia. Hence, innovative approaches to improve adherence and disease prevention are crucial.

What?

HATICE aims to develop and test an innovative interactive eHealth solution to improve lifestyle so as to prevent cardiovascular diseases and dementia. This project focuses on the optimal management of vascular and lifestyle related risk factors, while taking the specific needs of the elderly into account.

How?

Dutch, Finnish and French scientists developed an internet-based platform where the elderly can interact with specialised nurses and find relevant information to change their lifestyle to manage chronic health conditions. In this way HATICE empowers the elderly to be in charge of their own health.
